SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Police have identified the woman arrested after a shooting and barricade situation Wednesday night.

Police say Peggy Hinkle, 53, of Sarasota is facing two charges of attempted murder. At about 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday night, Sarasota Police officers responded to the 1600 block of North Tamiami Trail for a report of a shooting. The male victims in the case went to a home on Sylvan Drive to collect one of the men’s belongings.

When entering the house, one of the victims video recorded while they were inside. Hinkle confronted the two victims armed with a handgun and attempted to shoot one of them. Hinkle pulled the trigger, but the handgun did not go off. The two victims were able to wrestle the gun from Hinkle’s hands. The victims fled from the house.

The two victims ran outside to get into a car and leave. Hinkle shot at the car as the victims drove away. Hinkle got into her own car and started to follow the victims. The victims pulled into the parking lot of a business on North Tamiami Trail. Police then say Hinkle followed them into the parking lot, and the two vehicles crashed. They then say Hinkle began shooting at the car the victims were in.

A bullet hit one of the men in the head and the other occupant drove away. They went to Sarasota Police Department instead of the hospital. Hinkle returned home and barricaded herself in her home..

The Sarasota Police Department Crisis Negotiation Unit was crucial in speaking with Hinkle and convincing her to surrender peacefully. Hinkle surrendered peacefully at about 7:45 p.m. and was taken to the Sarasota County Jail. She’s currently being held without bond.
